| About GMKS |
 |
Gandhi Manav Kalyan Society (GMKS), a well known developmental NGO of India, started its operation in the year 1985. It is essentially an NGO run by a group of members hailing from tribal community. Its activities spread into 10 districts of Rajasthan—a largest geographical and desert state of India. These districts are Udaipur, Pali, Jodhpur, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Jalore, Karoli, Dungarpur, Sirohi and chittorgarh. Some villages in these districts are most backward.
|
In most of these backward villages
of the districts GMKS implemented a host of developmental
programmes in close collaboration with 45 community
based organizations.The
society had a strong base in 800 odd villages
and its services were being rendered to around
1 million populations of the state. Since
inception GMKS has been playing a pivotal role
in all round development of the tribal areas of
Rajasthan especially in Udaipur region. Some of
the developmental programmes it implemented through
community-based networking organizations and a
majority of the programmes it implemented through
its own volunteers and staff.
Gandhi Manav
Kalyan Society’s recent direct intervention
now reaches to 80 tribal villages of Jhadol and
Kotra blocks of Udaipur district. Bhil, Gharasia
and Kathodi are the most backward tribal communities
of the region who are directly benefiting from
the programmes and services being provided by
Gandhi Manav Kalyan Society. At present, its services
are being extended to around 1 lakh population
of the two blocks. The society has a dedicated
team of professionals drawn from various backgrounds
and disciplines and 112 village-level volunteers
spread in 80 odd villages. |
