| Strengthening PRIS |

Indian Constitution and its policy makers had given great deal to involve Panchyati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in all spheres of rural development. It was greatly emphasized to strengthen Panchyati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in controlling all development programmes at village level. PRIs could play a fair role in functioning of the governance and in implementation of rural development programmes.
The major aim of this initiative is to strengthen the PRIs and other local bodies in mobilizing the local resources for the larger benefits of villages and village development and to create awareness among villagers, enabling them to take control of the local resources for better social progress. As a result of our initiatives, PRIs and local institutions have improved in the way of their functioning and in mobilizing resources for better and transparent governance. This programme has helped the PRI members to understand the actual rules and functions of the PRIs to govern local resources, their involvement in major decision making of using resources and its economy, for awareness building on rights of villagers, SC, ST and backward communities and on the government rules and regulations and procurement of forest produces.
Gandhi Manav Kalyan Society believes that sarpanchs, wardpanchs, gramsabha members, wardsabha members and other members of the Panchayats play catalyst roles in all major decision making process of development. Their involvement in local development programmes initiated by GMKS is bringing a positive impact on tribal society and the way the developmental works in villages are planned.
